A Kid With Character

At our school we are trying to help our kids build character. We have adopted 5 words at our school that we are trying to teach and model for our kids. These words are respect, responsibility, kidness/caring and self control. The last 2 months of school we have been focusing on respect which we tell the kids "treat others the way you want to be treated" is the definition. We have talked in depth about how that looks to a kindergartener. Then once a month we have a Kids With Character Assembly" where all of the kids wear their Castlio t-shirts and come to the gym. Each teacher recognizes 4 kids from their class who have shown that character word and the students come to the front of the assembly to receive an award. Afterward we all do the "Tootie Tah" dance to celebrate!
Well, I am the proud mom of a "kid with character!" Cole was recognized for showing respect because he helped the new student in his room with getting through the lunch line and showing her around and making sure she had someone to play with at recess! I am so proud of him!
