Proud Wife

I have always been so proud of Dan and the career path he chose! It takes such an amazing person to do his job. I know people say that about teaching kindergarteners, or being the trash man, but it takes a speical person to be firman, medics police officers etc. They see so many horrific things that they become numb to pain and appear to be so aloof when things appear to be so sad to the rest of us.
Most of you know how everyone jokes with Dan. He hates nothing more than to get called out of the engine house to a crap call becuase someones back hurts at 3am and they choose at that moment that its necessary to be transported by ambulance.
However, people that know Dan also know that when he is called for reasons that are necessary, he will give it his all.
Unfortunately, yesterday he had that call. It is not often that the guys run into a burning building and pull someone out. Not often they go to car fires and someones still in the vehicle. And its never happened to him, to be the one to get to a call and have the job of pulling a 2 year old burning child from a car, administer cpr and lose her.
Thats the call I recieved asking Cole and I to come to the firehouse to comfort Dan after that exact situation yesterday. No, the outcome was not in his favor or the childs, but I could not be more proud of the job he did, and how he handled everything, even the loss. To see you husband stand and sob while holding your own child is unreal.
I will never know what Dan sees when he thinks about the call yesterday, but I will never be more proud that he gave his all to help.
As I read the KSDK blog comments to the story, I came across one that brought me to tears, only becuase I know the man she is talking about is my husband. I have copied and pasted it here for you to read.
Please pray for the family and the child, and pray that Dan and eevryone that saw it, can grieve the best they know how!

We saw the fireman running with her. I had to pull over because I was crying so hard. We had our own 2 year old in the car with us. The image of that moment is one I cannot shake."

Happy Birthday Cousin Alvi

THis weekend we had a really nice low key weekend! THe only thing we had planned was Alvis bday party at cousin Ellens house! It was a few firsts for Cole! We have been waiting several weeks for the ice cream man to drive by our house. We have waited money in hand when we hear the music but he never drives by! WELL, they had arranged the ice cream truck to come to Alvis party! So Cole finally got to see an ice cream truck for the first time! He was so excited, as were all the kdis fro unlimited ice cream! Of course, he got spider man!
The next first was the pool! Of course hes been in a pool. BUT if we cannot touch, he WILL NOT let me let go of him and float with his floaties. He is like me and has a fear! Well, thi year i loaded him up! I bought him floaties and a swim shirt with a tube! Yes, he looked dorky, but I dont trust myslef in the water either! On the way to the party he said, "mom, can you learn me to swim today?" Well, he asked me to let go of him and he floated and kicked all around the pool. When he realized it he screamed "IM swimming!" It was one of the most proud moments I have seen on his face! Of all days, i only got one shot of it befre my camera died! UGH!

WE DID IT!

We finished a seasonal sport with no running off the field and refusing to go back! Soccer is over! THe had thier final scrimmage on Monday and it was too cute! Cole actually just ran toward the direction of the ball but was never aggressive enough to get it becuase a boy pushed him down on purpose last week and took the fun right out of it! oh well, he had a ball this season and was very excited to get his medal! At one point during the last scrimmage I yelled "Get the ball cole!" in which he responded "that one?" DUH! Oh well...i really dont like soccer either!

Half Way

A few weeks ago I decided that it had been too long since I had seen my sister and neices! We decided to meet half way for the weekend and hang out and stay in a hotel with mom, mindy and all of our kiddos! Half way is Bloomington Illinois. It actually had quite a bit to do there! We had so much fun! We played at an awesome park, went to the "ghetto zoo" (we called it that because it was a rehabilitation zoo), ate, went to a swing around fun town type place, swam and made tons of memories! Oh yeah, oh yeah! The kids and I rode bumper boats..and tried at all cost to steer the damn thing and not get sprayed in 50 degree weather! They all rode nascars, which my mom annoyed evryone with cause she went so slow noone could get around! We had so much fun! Its never long enough!

Photo #1!

Well, today we had the ultrasound that gave so much relief! The sac was occupied by a rice grain with a beating heart! We got to hear it as well! What a soothing sound! Cole was excited! He said its a girl! THe heart rate was lower today but fine....as was my blood pressure! 100/50! wow! Im wondering if i took 2 blood pressure pills this am!
The baby looks great so far! Next relief will be at the 18 week ultrasound. After that we will have 1 a month to make sure the blood pressure meds dont cause a small baby. It sure didnt hurt cole! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers...hopefully no drama from here on out!
By the way...I dont miss the 2 hours waiting room stints!

Head Bounce

Tonight at Coles soccer practice, they were teaching the kids how to bounce the ball off of their heads! It was adorable. They all looked like little Jack in the Boxes popping up and down!

Josh and Cole

On Saturday evening Kristy invited Cole and I over to play! The boys had so much fun outside! JOsh got out his power wheels truck and they took turns driving! IT cracks me up watching 3 little boys joy ride! I can just picture it when they are 16!

The Secret Is Out!

Over the last 10 days I had to keep a VERY BIG SECRET! I found out that I am pregant! We had been trying for 20 months! I finall came to Dan the first of April and told him that I needed a break and we would just go on vacation in sept and then start again when we got back! Well, of course we book our trip to Vegas, which we are still really excited about, and turns out during our period of not trying, we got pregnant! It is and was a total surprise! I am so happy and a little nervous! It seem unreal still. So I told a few friends and my sister and of course Dan. I actually was not going to tell him until mothers day, but I was scared that if something happened, I would be sad he didnt know. So, I held out on the moms and everyone else until mothers day, as well as cole! I told him I had a secret, that he was going to be a brother. He grinned and I told him I had a baby in my belly. He imediately grabbed my stomach and said, "let me see it!" I explained what would happend and he screamed, " Can I tell daddy?"
When we go to dans parents, Cole was wearing a Big Brother t shirt. Dan moms of oucrse cried, then he ran in the driveway and showed my mom his shirt. She read it and said, "What does that mean?" Then looked at me and started bawling! That is the same reaction I got from my sister and my closest friends! We are so excited! Pray it all goes well!

Hank the Pillow

On Friday evening Cole was having a rough time and tired. After dinner he curled up next to Hank the Tank and took a little siesta! Hank was so good too, he didnt even move! Just got uncomfortable once and moved his head to a rung on the chair to be even more uncomfortable. Hes not the smartest....but Cole got a little nappy in!

Beatiful Weather!

On Tursday we were expecting storms, but they held off all day and made for BEAUTIFUL weather! It was sunny and 80 degrees! Cole has a new love for pretending to be a fireman and put out the fire on his "club house." I was under the weather that day, so I just parked myseelf in the sun for a few hours in the afternoon and watched him play with the water hose! It's the simple things in life!

4 Years of Cole

SO you know how I look back at him constantly...I decided to put up some pics of him over the years (all 4 of them) on his bday!I am so sentimental and I just cant believe this time next year he will be on a class list for kindergarten!

Happy Bday Cole

Oh my gosh my baby is 4!!!!I cannot believe he is already 4! It seems like yesterday I was pregnant with him! We celebrated his bday with a party at Pump It Up with his friends. He had a great time and jumped and played and laughed! We are now overloaded with Spider Man! It should keep him busy for a while!

Sheets For a Super Hero

Well, we all know Coles current spider man obsession! Well, his Gigi (dans mom) surprised him with Spider Man sheets for his bed last week before his bday! He was so excited! He actually asked to go to bed right then! Whew hew! The most exciting part is one side is a black spider man, and the other red! WOW!

A boy and his dog!

Even after a year, Cole still thinks Hank the Tank is the best thing ever! Every morning he wakes up and says, "Wheres Hank?" if he is not right at the bed! Cole has this baby voice he talks to him and says, "Oh Hanky, you such a good boy, you so precious!" Then at night they have "the running of the bulls!" Cole chases the dog all around the house and they both go crazy until they are worn out! Which is a win win situation for Dan and I! Moreso becuase Hank never seems to just chill!
